Time travel

A bibliophile – that is how we refer to people who do not only appreciate a book’s content but also its appearance. This exhibition of the MoneyMuseum is dedicated to all bibliophiles out there. It takes visitors along on a journey through time and space that begins shortly before the era in which books developed from objects of use and status into works of art. Our path takes us from the mid-19th century to the present day, inviting every visitor to ask themselves what they consider to be a beautiful book.

Since time immemorial, we humans have looked to the heavens and guided our lives according to the course of the celestial bodies. We observed and drew conclusions - which is how astronomy was born. This science is much more than a mere sequence of discoveries, as it is often presented in textbooks. In this exhibition, we will explore the social background behind the science. Follow us as we use exciting volumes from our collection to show how and why astronomy changed the world.

Join us on this journey through the centuries: the MoneyMuseum presents some of the most magnificent chronicles of Switzerland. We hope this exhibition sharpens your understanding of how history was – and still is – used, and what for: Is the story of Switzerland we tell today fact or fake news?

The new exhibition of the MoneyMuseum Zurich is dedicated to the merchant in the Baroque period. Using selected books from the collection, the exhibition deals with the merchant profession and the profound economic changes that characterized this era.

What is justice, anyway? Why does it often not correspond with the law? And does justice mean the same thing for everyone? Has what we consider 'just changed over the centuries? Or is justice an absolute value, unaffected by time or place? In order to examine these questions from a range of perspectives, we've taken a look in the MoneyMuseum's library. Join us on our journey to find out how our idea of justice has evolved.

Today, life expectancy grows higher and higher. And yet, eventually, it all still comes to an end. So, how do we deal with death? This exhibition deals with how questions and answers regarding death and the hope for eternal life have changed over time. Follow us on our journey through the centuries with books from the MoneyMuseum's library.

In German we have a perfect word for the unknown aspects of the world: "Fremde". That's how we have always called what we did not know - and there used to be far more we did not know about than there is today. Throughout history, Europe constantly broadened and changed its perspective on the unknown and, while doing so, learned a lot about itself. The books of the MoneyMuseum Library will demonstrate you this development!
